How often is it recommended to do them? Is it possible to overdo it and hurt yourself?

Hi Susan, You cannot "overdo " the Kegels... The recommended is 10 reps where you tighten and hold tight for 10 seconds each time. Do this 3 times a day. More than 3 times won't hurt, but it won't help much either. Once 10 reps is easy to do, you might get a little more benefit by increasing to 15 or 20 reps, especially after birthing a child to help tone the muscles again... Best wishes, Ed, RN

It's not possible to overdue them and hurt yourself. Doing a kegal just works a muscle, like moving your arm up and down during the day. Just to make sure you know what a kegal is, to do them they feel like when you are trying to stop urinating, or make yourself urinate by pushing down. Don't worry about doing them too much, it is good for you to do once a day, even a few sets every hour if you want.

NO it is very hard to over do because the kegels are mostly auto' reactive and will respond as such,you can trigger them as often as you like, it will soon become such a habit that you do them like biting you fingernails or popping your knuckles. when training for kegels it's private biz, buy a "hackysack " of cleanable material or use the long krafting balloons create an resistance ball the size you feel comfortable with inside you. then Squeezes can be FELT easier and the amount of pressure will be in-accordance with your position and expected needs, Child birthing needs are maximum while lovemaking needs are more gentle application of prolonged enhancements. Le-Manz classes also recommends the Knee squeezes and pinch the Buttocks as well doing it in private with a crafting balloon with out lube will make it a do able and success full adventure. When you do the internals allow the end of the balloon to protrude and you can SEE the volume of air expand more with the progressive daily activities. Later on as improvements become mundane you may want to buy the regular balloons and install a "'mouse roller ball' inside it or small super-ball. then inflate it enough to insert and give the ball rolling space. ,, the PEAR shaped one still allow the neck to protrude and show progress.
