Developed by Biofeedback Therapist Jennifer Stephens, M.A.

"Jennifer Stephens first approached me about her interest in the natural bladder treatment for urinary incontinence in 1991...When Jennifer described newer bladder control exercises which seemingly offered a “risk-free” alternative to surgery, I was very interested if slightly skeptical. At that time, there were only a few studies which discussed “pelvic floor rehabilitation” via biofeedback techniques. Jennifer’s experience with biofeedback and her excitement over its use to improve pelvic floor strength and decrease incontinence convinced me to look further.

I decided to take a chance on this new approach to incontinence and was not disappointed by what I observed over the years to come. My patients were clearly getting better after seeing Jennifer...."

Am i the only one who links migraines and lasik surgery?

Question: Am i the only one who links migraines and lasik surgery?

(Posted by: LukeS on 2010-03-02 05:17:51)

I had Bladeless Lasik Surgery about 3.5 years ago, i'm now 23 years old and very healty. Up until I had my Lasik I had never had a migraine. Now I suffer from migraines nearly on a daily basis. I've seen multiple doctors, opthamologist, and neurologist and now i'm only being treated for basic migraines with medication. I am positive that they we're originally caused by the Lasik Surgery, I have no other health problems, I even had wisdom teeth that wasn't causing a problem removed thinking it was them. Has anyone else suffered this as a side effect of Lasik? I don't see anything online linking the two together.

I am sure there could be a causal relationship but only a temporary one,. If it persists then there is probably something else going on too.

Well if you think about what lasik does, it just reshapes the very front surface of the eye, the cornea , which in it's self can't have any possible connection to getting migrains. Your migrains could be triggered by something as simple as your diet. Many foods are known to be triggers for migrains , and is the most common cause. Anything marinated, chocolate, caffeine, pizza, even many fruits can be a trigger. There are also some more serious neurological causes of course which would require lots of in depth tests to find . But to link it to lasik is really a shot in the dark , going in the wrong direction. Best of luck in finding the real cause.

Hi, No, you are not the only person who believes that their migraines and LASIK are connected. I have patients call up at various stages from 1 week post op to 6+ years post op and ask me if their headaches / migraines are due to surgery. As Footprint has noted above, what Laser Vision Correction does and where it does it, cannot possible have any direct effect on migraines etc. (I would qualify this statement by saying that this is so if your visual outcome is good - a ''significant'' amount of uncorrected or induced astigmatism or higher order aberrations certainly can cause headaches - but you would have had this diagnosed, been given a prescription and/ or re-treatment for this already I would have thought?) Prior to undergoing Laser Vision Correction, people are not overtly conscious of their eyes and don't associate peripheral issues with their vision. After treatment of course, people are much more aware of their eyes and readily attache peripheral health issues to their treatment - simply because ''surgery'' is more significant and memorable than say a change in diet. (For example, I developed an allergy to nuts in my late 20's, this happened to be at a similar time to moving half way across the world and provided a relatively neat however un-scientific answer to this issue - the fact that I felt I had a justifiable cause meant no further investigation was necessary and I got on with the allergy). This is not to say that you should not investigate all possibilities for the cause of your headaches, but I do not see any evidence, even causal of a relation between vision correction and migraines. Best regards

Frankly, most headaches are blamed on the eyes when in reality, the eyes seldom are the cause of headaches.

High chance both issues are not connected. But because LASIK is such a special surgery which is not fully regulated by all governments (as compared to other surgeries), there are always slim chances that something might have happened. The only connection i can see is that the Lasik Op was successful but had some slight 'errors' which cause some problems with focusing in certain angles. It might be captured by your brain but not your eyes. Its just a guess but in Lasik, lots of things can happen. Comprehensive Guide to Lasik Surgery in Singapore lasiksg.com
